Product description
The Glen Elgin Distillery was built in 1898 by former Glenfarclas manager William Simpson with the help of banker James Carle.
Production began in May 1900, but the distillery went bankrupt after just five months. In 1930, Glen Elgin became part of the DCL group, and the distilling license was awarded to White Horse Distillers. Since then, Glen Elgin distillate has remained one of the key components of White Horse blends. Currently, the plant belongs to Diageo and produces 2.7 million liters of alcohol per year. The 12-year-old edition presented here is quite unique. The whisky, aged in sherry and bourbon casks, was bottled in the early 1980s for the Italian importer, GP Carpano based in Turin. A jug for water is included.
Nose: beautiful old school, barley malt, raisins, dried figs and dates, caramel, toffee, hazelnuts, a hint of pine resin and a whiff of peat smoke.
Palate: rich, roasted nuts and almonds, bitter orange jam, mixed dried fruits, caramel, honey, lapsang souchong tea, a trace of cedar wood and a bit of peat in the background.
Finish: quite long and rather spicy, pepper, ginger, a mixture of dried fruits and a subtle oak bitterness.
