Product description
The Connoisseurs Choice series is the brainchild of George Urquhart, a second-generation member of the family who owned Gordon & MacPhail and a great whisky visionary.
Since 1968, the series has featured nearly 100 distilleries, presenting over 2,000 editions. In 2018, the company redesigned Connoisseurs Choice to give it a more contemporary, elegant look, and also included cask strength and wood finishes. The Mannochmore featured here, Batch #21/057, distilled in 1993, spent over a quarter of a century in a first-fill puncheon sherry cask (no. 6730), and was bottled at cask strength (52.3% abv) on 22 February 2021 in an edition of 525 bottles. (Producer’s tasting note.)
Nose: A wonderful combination of autumn spices, zesty orange and nuts; followed by toffee, cocoa powder and a hint of ripe, juicy plums.
Taste: the sweetness of apples and Christmas fruitcake sprinkled with a hint of cinnamon, preceded by notes of dark chocolate with raspberries and toasted oak.
Finish : long, with notes of licorice and spices.
