Product description
Portobello Road No. 171 Gin debuted in 2011 in the Ginstitute range. Ginstitute is located in London at 171 Portobello Road and is one of the smallest museums in the metropolis.
It was founded by three friends, former bartenders – Jake Burger, Ged Feltham and Paul Lane, and the culmination of their life mission was to create their own gin. After nine months of testing and experimenting, they decided on a formula containing nine botanicals – Tuscan juniper berries and orris root, Spanish lemon peel, Moroccan and Haitian bitter orange peel, Indonesian nutmeg, cassia bark, coriander seed, liquorice root and angelica. A small amount of English sea salt is also added just before the distillation process is completed. The gin is distilled from wheat spirit at the Thames Distillery in London under the supervision of the local master distiller Charles Maxwell. Portobello Road Celebrated Butter Gin is the standard Portobello Road Gin re-distilled with 10 cubes of unsalted butter in 30-litre batches. Its name refers to "Sketches by Boz" by Charles Dickens.
This gin has a very unusual aromatic profile, reminiscent of eating a piece of bread in a pine forest. In the palette, notes of juniper, some spices, a piece of bread and a pinch of salt. The producer recommends serving it in a classic Martini.
