La Licorera Cihuatán was founded in 2004 as a division of Ingenio La Cabaña, a sugar producer. The distillery is located in El Paisnal, El Salvador, and takes its name from an ancient Mayan settlement.
The company began producing its first rum in El Salvador, which debuted on international markets in 2015. The rum is made from molasses, which is supplied by the parent company Ingenio La Cabaña. The rum is distilled in column stills and matured primarily in oak bourbon barrels.
Cihuatán Cinabrio Rum is a rum aged for 12 years in American bourbon oak barrels. Its name is a reference to the color red, which was attributed by the ancient Mayans to the sun god, Kinich Ahau.
Aroma: Dried fruits, pineapples, tangerines, oranges, vanilla, tropical fruits.
Taste: Sweet and mild, orange peel, dried currants, chocolate, caramel, spices.
Finish: Caramel, oranges, oak.
