Macduff Distillery is based in the town of Banff in the Eastern Highlands.
Since 1993, it has been owned by John Dewar & Sons, a subsidiary of Bacardi Ltd., and produces around 3.3 million litres of distillate per year. The owners promote their single malt under the Glen Deveron brand (most recently The Deveron), while independent bottlers consistently use the Macduff name. The Macduff presented here, distilled in August 2007, spent 12 years in a refill hogshead cask no. DL 13453. Bottled by Douglas Laing & Co. in September 2019 in an edition of 376 bottles. All Douglas Laing & Co. whiskies are offered with a natural colour and without chill filtration.
Nose: strongly fruity, ripe apples and pears, peaches, bananas, vanilla, honey, notes of ginger and lemongrass and some oak in the background.
Taste: consistent with the aroma, apples, pears, grapes, gooseberries, yeast cake, vanilla, honey, a pinch of ginger and white pepper and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla cream, honeyed cereal, caramel, summer fruits, a touch of ginger and oak.
