Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask series, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and headed by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Bruichladdich 15 years old presented here was distilled in June 2005 and aged in a refill hogshead cask (DL 14179). Bottled in August 2020 at 48.4% abv and unchill-filtered in an edition of 223 bottles.
Nose: malted barley, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, apples, lemons, a touch of ginger and white pepper, oak and a hint of salty breeze.
Taste: mild, honeyed breakfast cereal, toffee, vanilla, sponge cake, apples, grapefruit, lemon grass and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, lemon peel, white pepper, sea salt and oak.
