Berry Bros. & Rudd, a London trading company, was founded in 1690 and initially operated in the wine and food markets.
It has been a purveyor to the royal court since the time of George III, and currently employs eight Masters of Wine and has a stock of more than 4,000 wines and spirits. Its first whisky hit was Cutty Sark (1923), created for Americans sentenced to Prohibition. The company offers single malt whiskies in the Berry's Own Selection series, appreciated by connoisseurs. The Glenlivet presented here, distilled in 1975, before the distillery was taken over by Seagram, spent more than three decades in cask no. 10835; it was added to the Berry's Own Selection series in 2008.
Aroma : fruity, apricots, nectarines, quince jam, sultanas, honey, vanilla cream, milk chocolate, pralines, roasted chestnuts, potpourri and oak notes.
Palate: honey-roasted nuts, raisins, sultanas, dried apricots, orange jam, banana cake, milk chocolate, a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish: long, with notes of sweet dried fruit, honey, milk chocolate, nutmeg, pepper and oak.
