Product description
In the 1970s, Gordon & MacPhail, the largest independent whisky publisher, launched the Pride of the Regions series, consisting of four titles – Pride of Islay, Pride of Orkney, Pride of Strathspey and Pride of the Lowlands.
These were 12-year-old blended malts (then called vatted malts) bottled at 40% ABV, reflecting the character of the whisky produced in the given regions. The "Pride of the Regions" disappeared from the company's offer with the advent of the new millennium and today single examples sometimes end up at auction. There are two distilleries in Orkney, Scapa and Highland Park, and at that time both single malts were regularly featured in Gordon & MacPhail's offer, but we do not know what their proportion is in the "Pride of Orkney" presented here.
Nose : honey, vanilla, orange peel, apples, banana cake, roasted nuts and almonds, notes of potpourri and damp wool and a light smoke in the background.
Palate : toffee, honey, red berries, apples, orange peel, a handful of dried herbs, white pepper, oak and a distant hint of smoke.
Finish: medium long, with notes of citrus, honey, milk chocolate, a pinch of pepper and peat smoke in the background.
