De Ijsvogel Distillery is located in Arcen, in a restored watermill situated in the Barbara's Weerd nature reserve.
The original mill was built in 1498, rebuilt in 1677 and restored in 1993. The Ijsvogel (Dutch for "kingfisher") distillery, equipped with two small stills, occupies the lower level of the mill, while the upper one is used for maturing the whisky. So far, the distillery's offer includes several single cask editions. The whisky presented here, distilled in 2015, spent 48 months in a regenerated Oloroso No. 5 sherry cask (capacity 250 l), and was bottled in September 2019 without chill filtration and with an alcohol content of 46%.
Nose: a mixture of dried fruits, plums, cherries, raisins, caramel, toffee, roasted almonds, milk chocolate, traces of sherry and oak.
Taste : caramel, honey, raisins, pears, almond croissants, cocoa, delicate notes of nutmeg and pepper.
Finish: medium long, with notes of dried fruit, caramel, roasted nuts and almonds and a touch of oak.
