Flóki 3-year-old Icelandic Single Malt Sherry Wood Finish / 47%/ 0.5l
- Flóki whisky is produced by Eimverk Distillery, the first whisky distillery in Iceland.
Product description
Flóki is a brand from the Eimverk Distillery portfolio, the first and so far only whisky producer in Iceland. The whisky is named after Hrafn-Flóki, a Norwegian sailor who sailed to Iceland in the 9th century.
The company was founded by the three Thorkelsson brothers in 2011, and production began in August 2013. Eimverk uses only local, organically grown barley, which it malts in-house. Due to the short, cold summers, Icelandic barley is low in sugar and requires half as much sugar to produce a bottle of whisky as in Scotland. In recent years, the company has been experimenting with finishing maturation, which has resulted in some interesting releases. The three-year-old whisky presented here has spent the last six months in a first-fill sherry cask.
Aroma : bread dough, barley malt, plums, apples, orange peel, raisins, notes of pepper and nutmeg.
Palate : slightly alcoholic, honey, vanilla, buttered toast, multi-berry jam, blood oranges, cinnamon, nutmeg and light oak bitterness.
Finish: medium long, with notes of sweet cereal, red berries, vanilla, nutmeg, pepper and oak.
