Product description
Connemara, one of dozens of so-called whiskey brands from the Cooley Distillery portfolio, debuted in December 1995 and completely overturned the conventional wisdom about the profile of Irish whiskey.
Twice distilled from malt with a phenol concentration of around 20ppm, it was in no way a match for Jameson or Bushmills, which set the standards for whiskey from the "Green Isle". In fact, to this day Connemara remains the only widely available Irish whiskey with a smoky-peaty profile. Its "peaty" differs significantly from Islay single malts, showing herbal-floral characteristics. In our opinion, the Cask Strength edition presented here dates from the beginning of the century.
Nose: slightly peaty and waxy, barley malt, forest floor, freshly cut grass, lemon peel, green apples, white pepper, some herbs and oak.
Palate : peaty, sweet, vanilla, brown sugar, apples, gooseberries, plums, a handful of fresh herbs, white pepper, notes of ginger and oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of summer fruits, hay, walnuts, vanilla, peat and tobacco.
