Russell's Reserve debuted in 1999 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Wild Turkey Distillery master distiller Jimmy Russell.
It was a 10-year-old small batch bourbon that has won a dozen medals and awards to this day. Jimmy Russell started working at Wild Turkey in 1954, today he holds the title of Master Distiller Emeritus and is a living bourbon legend. His son Eddie, who followed in his father's footsteps in 1981, currently holds the position of master distiller. Russell's Reserve Small Batch Rye joined the lineup in 2007 and received excellent reviews. It is distilled using a formula of 65% rye, 23% corn and 12% malted barley and aged for 6 years in barrels with the fourth (highest) degree of roasting. The selection of barrels for this edition remains in the hands of the Russell family.
Aroma: sweet and spicy with a delicate floral note, milk fudge, caramel, cinnamon, baked apples, peaches, cinnamon, allspice, pepper and oak.
Palate : well-balanced, rye bread with butter, caramel, toffee, banana chips, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa powder and charred oak.
Finish : long, with notes of caramel, allspice, cinnamon, pepper, a pinch of vanilla and dry herbs and charred oak.
