“Berizh” (local language: “Brittany”) is a blended whisky from the Distillerie Warenghem portfolio based in Lannion, Brittany.
It was founded in the early 20th century by Leon Warenghem, but the first attempts at whisky production took place only in the late 1980s. Blended whisky debuted in 1987, and single malt (Armorik) 11 years later. Breizh whisky was included in the offer in 2009, it is a blend of 50% malt distillate and 50% grain, both distilled on site in a copper alembic. The whisky is aged for at least 3 years in traditional oak barrels and bottled at 42% alcohol.
Aroma : fresh, malty, green apples, bouquet of dry flowers, straw, vanilla, caramel, notes of fennel, licorice and young oak.
Palate: soft, breakfast cereal, brown sugar, maple syrup, apples, pears, licorice, a handful of garden herbs and a little oak.
Finish : not too long, with notes of vanilla, maple syrup, baked apples, white pepper and oak.
