Product description
Ballantine's is the second largest selling Scotch whisky (after Johnnie Walker), with almost 80 million bottles sold annually. It appeared around 1827, when George Ballantine opened his own shop and tentatively began blending whisky.
The key malts in Ballantine’s formula today are Miltonduff, Glenburgie and Glentauchers (all based in Speyside), but it wasn’t until 2017 that they were offered as single malts for the first time in Ballantine’s 190-year history. The Glentauchers Distillery was founded in 1897 by James Buchanan and WP Lowrie, and used the whisky from there to blend the Black & White. It now produces 4.2 million litres of distillate per year from three pairs of stills. This 15-year-old whisky is aged in American white oak barrels.
Aroma: fruity-sweet, raspberry jam, apples, vanilla, milk fudge, honey, candy and some oak shavings.
Taste: sweet and fresh, honey, milk chocolate, sponge cake, baked apples and pears, raspberries, traces of leather and oak.
Finish: medium long and quite strongly oaky, with notes of raspberries, blackcurrants, and cocoa.
