The history of Martell, the oldest of the four so-called great cognac houses, begins in 1715.
Then, 21-year-old Jean Martell arrives from Jersey in Charente with a mission to produce the highest quality eaux-de-vie. In 1988, Seagram paid $850 million for the rights to the Martell brand, which is currently owned by the French company Pernod Ricard. Martell ranks second after Hennessy in cognac sales statistics, with 2.6 million cases sold in 2018. The Martell VS presented here debuted in 2017. It is distilled in a single distillery from grapes from the Grande and Petite Champagne, Les Borderies and Fins Bois growing districts, and aged for at least two years in French oak barrels from Tronçais.
Aroma: fruity and delicately floral, vanilla, caramel, bouquet of wild flowers, quince jelly, a bit of dry herbs, hay and oak.
Taste: pleasantly balanced, raisins, dried plums and cherries, caramel, marzipan, notes of cinnamon and cocoa powder.
Finish : medium long, with notes of dried fruit, caramel, roasted almonds, a drop of violet liqueur and oak.
