Nikka Gold debuted in November 1955, heralding the company's presence in the premium blends segment.
Gold & Gold, representing the blended malt category, joined the range in 1968. Its common name was "Shirobin", which translates from Japanese to "White", although the label was black. Gold & Gold Samurai Edition is intended for distribution exclusively in the Japanese Travel Retail chain. It is blended in the Yoichi distillery from distillates produced in traditional stills and columns and bottled at 43% alcohol. Each bottle is dressed in samurai armor and a plastic helmet.
Aroma : quite sweet, barley malt, toffee, vanilla, caramel, Christmas fruit cake, notes of ginger and mulled wine spices.
Taste: mild, toffee, caramel, raisins, cinnamon, candied ginger, cloves, a pinch of pepper and a fleeting note of peat.
Finish: medium long, slightly nutty, with notes of pepper, cinnamon and ginger.
