- Arran is still the only distillery located on the namesake island, but things are about to change.
Product description
Arran Distillery still holds the distinction of being the only distillery on the island that bears its name, although its owner, Isle of Arran Distillers, applied for planning permission in 2016 to build a sister facility on the south side of the island.
Meanwhile, Arran Distillery is offering new whiskies, including The Bothy, a small-batch edition aged in bourbon barrels and finished in quarter casks. Here is Batch #1 from September 2015, bottled at cask strength (55.7% abv), in an edition of 12,000 bottles. (The Bothy refers to a small hut or shelter without a lock, where a traveller can find free shelter.)
Aroma : fresh, malty and slightly floral, apple blossom, grass, vanilla, burnt sugar, oranges, pineapples, coconut flakes, notes of cinnamon and oak.
Palate : fresh, baked apples, oranges, grapes, candied lemon peel, vanilla ice cream, honey, butter buns, milk fudge and a hint of fresh oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of vanilla, tropical fruits and oak tannins.
