Product description
In the 1970s, Gordon & MacPhail, the largest independent whisky publisher, launched the "Pride of the Regions" series, consisting of four editions
– Pride of Islay, Pride of Orkney, Pride of Strathspey and Pride of the Lowlands. These were 12-year-old blended malts (then called vatted malts) bottled at 40% ABV, reflecting the character of the whisky produced in the given regions. The “Pride of the Regions” disappeared from the company’s offer with the advent of the new millennium and today individual copies sometimes end up at auction. We know little about the formula of the Pride of Islay presented here, but there is a good chance that Port Ellen is included. According to the producer, this whisky “offers classic aromas and flavours of the island of Islay”.
Nose: slightly smoky with a hint of sherry, sea breeze, walnuts, milk chocolate, oranges, bananas, traces of licorice and eucalyptus.
Taste : fruity and peaty, apples, plums, bitter oranges, lemon peel, salted butter, licorice, cloves, traces of pepper and mint.
Finish : medium long, with notes of mixed nuts, pepper, sea salt, a touch of sherry-soaked oak and peat smoke.
