Product description
Of all the Scottish distilleries that closed in the 1980s, Glenugie is perhaps the one that brings back the fewest memories. It began around 1831 as the Invernettie Distillery and was Scotland’s most easterly distillery.
Over the years, it has experienced more stoppages and changes of ownership than periods of prosperity. One of those was the 1950s, when a plant owned by Long John International produced malt spirits for the group’s blends , but by 1983 Glenugie was history. The 2010 Chivas Bros. edition (which now owns the brand) appears to be the first official release of this single malt . Glenugie 32 years old is part of the Deoch an Doras (“Drink for the road”) series of whiskies from closed distilleries.
Nose: deep and complex, old sherry cask, dark chocolate, orange peel, hazelnuts, dried plums and apricots, rosehip jam, traces of old leather and tobacco.
Palate : rich and perfectly balanced, dark chocolate, raisins, prunes, figs and dates, cinnamon, nutmeg, almonds, oak and old sherry.
Finish: infinitely long, perfect harmony of oak bitterness, dried fruit, dark chocolate and spices.
