Product description
October 1992 saw the debut of the 12-year-old Bushmills 1608 Special Reserve, the first Irish whiskey blended for exclusive distribution in duty-free stores.
It was a great blend, in the super premium category, with only 10% grain distillate. A few years later, it was replaced by the 1608 Reserve version presented here. Both had a very high malt distillate content, a large part of which was matured in sherry casks, the main difference being the lack of an age statement in the Reserve edition. The company claimed to have used distillates aged for up to 15 years, but did not mention the age of the youngest component. Bushmills 1608 Reserve is still a great blend, highly rated by Irish whiskey lovers.
Nose: a beautiful combination of malt, sherry and spices, apples, raisins, orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, honey-roasted nuts, caramel and a hint of anise.
Palate: pronounced sherry tones, cinnamon, candied ginger, milk fudge, chocolate-coated raisins, dried plums and apricots, a hint of praline and a touch of anise.
Finish : medium long, with notes of caramel, chocolate and a subtle hint of spice.
