Product description
Mekhong is the first whiskey produced in Thailand, since 1941.
It quickly became the most popular brand in this country. The name of the whiskey was taken from the name of the river, along which, at that time, there was a border dispute with Laos. The creator of the Thai drink was a brewer James Honzatko, who lived near the river. When the product became the most popular local drink and gained fame in the further area, production on a larger scale was only a matter of time. After Honzatko's death , his close friend Peter Sawer took over work on the Mekong and was ultimately responsible for the development of the company.
Although Mekhong is known as whiskey, it is more closely related to rum production. The distillates used for the blend are made from 95% sugar cane/molasses and 5% rice.
The condensate is then mixed with a secret recipe of local herbs and spices, which gives the whiskey its characteristic taste and aroma.
Mekhong is distilled, blended and bottled at the Bangyikhan Distillery on the outskirts of Bangkok.
