Ardbeg, the Distillery with more ups and downs than a punk gig, brings you Ardcore! A whisky made from roasted black malted barley, an unconventional choice and a first for the Distillery.
Charred to a spine-chilling degree, the malt undoubtedly defines the distinctive flavour profile of this release. According to Dr. Bill Lumsden, its flavour is like “biting a prickly ball”, and it’s sure to stick in your memory for a long time.
Ardcore also draws inspiration from Islay’s little-known punk past, paying homage to ‘PUNK ELLEN’ – the supposed nickname given to the island’s main port, Port Ellen, in the 1970s.
Nose : Spicy and dry, Ardcore overwhelms our senses with waves of marmite (British yeast extract), burnt toast, charred chicory and coffee. There are also classic herbal notes of Ardbeg, as well as campfire smoke and molasses.
Taste : Fiery and explosive! Rich in smoky flavors – cocoa, dark chocolate, nutty toffee, smoked lime and a subtle suggestion of soot and campfire. Anise and malty biscuit notes complete the punky punch.
Finish: Sweet, long, sticky like toffee, soot and smoke. Anarchic delicious.
