Connemara Natural Cask Strength / 60.1% / 0.7l
- Connemara, the only Irish peated whiskey, is produced at Cooley Distillery, owned by Beam Suntory since 2012.
Product description
Connemara is a unique Irish whiskey with a smoky and peaty profile.
It is produced in the Cooley distillery, which has been part of the Beam Suntory group since 2012. Although today Connemara's profile differs significantly from the established standards of Irish whiskey, in the past it was nothing unusual. The areas on the Atlantic coast were rich in peat bogs and the surrounding distilleries regularly used them; it was not until the 19th century that the vast majority of them opted for coal. Connemara debuted in December 1995, the Cask Strength version joined the offer a few years later and is released in small batches. The whiskey is distilled from malt imported from Scotland with a concentration of phenol compounds of 20 ppm, aged in bourbon barrels and bottled with a natural color and without cold filtration.
Nose: peaty and fruity, barley malt, green apples, pears, lemons, grilled asparagus, white pepper, vanilla, candy and toasted oak.
Palate: vanilla, crème brûlée, butter cookies, apples, peaches, mirabelle plums, lemon peel, a pinch of pepper and ginger and some oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, village orchard fruit, peat smoke and ash.
