Mackinlay's Shackleton's Journey / 47.3%/ 0.75l
- Journey is a follow-up to the Mackinlays Rare Old Highland Malt, the replica of whisky left in Antarctica by Sir Ernest Shackleton and miraculously discovered in 2007.
Product description
Shackleton's Journey is a sequel to the replica of the whisky left in the Antarctic ice by Sir Ernest Shackleton during his failed attempt to reach the South Pole in 1907-1909.
The Antarctic Heritage Trust and Alexandra Shackleton asked blender Richard Patterson to put together a second edition replica to commemorate the explorer’s 1916 “survival expedition.” The blend included Glen Mhor (1980 vintage), Dalmore ( heavily peated ), Glenfarclas, Mannochmore, Ben Nevis, Aultmore, Tamnavulin, Fettercairn, Pulteney and Jura. The youngest whisky was 8 years old, the oldest over 30. The new edition is presented in a completely different way – the wooden crate has been abandoned and the bottles are wrapped in straw to look exactly as they were found a hundred years later in Shackleton’s former camp.
Aroma: mild, floral-fruity, pineapple, pears, apple puree, milk fudge, vanilla, caramel, oak shavings carried by wafts of peat smoke.
Taste : harmonious, slightly oily, toffee, walnuts, orange peel and delicate peat notes.
Finish: medium long, pleasant, sweet bread served on peat briquettes.
