Product description
Fred Laing's XOP series debuted in 2014, a dozen or so months after the division of Douglas Laing & Co.'s assets between the two Laing brothers.
XOP stands for Xtra Old Particular and refers to the finest single malt and single grain casks from the family’s stock. The Tormore 24 year old presented here was distilled in August 1995 and aged for 24 years in a refilled hogshead cask no. DL 13455. Bottled in September 2019 at cask strength (50.7% abv), with a natural colour and without chill filtration, in an edition limited to 323 bottles. Founded in 1958, the Tormore Distillery is now owned by Pernod Ricard and produces around 4.8 million litres of distillate per year, the vast majority of which goes into the company’s portfolio of blends. (Producer’s tasting note.)
Aroma: a tempting combination of fresh passion fruit, juicy barley malt, ripe pears and cinnamon sticks.
Taste: stewed fruit, homemade yeast buns, a pinch of spices and a subtle bitterness of oak.
Finish: long and citrusy elegant, mandarin and lemon peel balanced by creamy notes of barley.
