Wemyss is one of the noble families of the Lowlands, related to Lord Macduff, ruler of Fife.
The Wemyss Malts company, operating since 2005, uses an unusual marketing strategy, the names of the whiskies it bottles correspond to their aromatic and flavor profiles. Peat Chimney (meaning "peat chimney") is a blend of 16 single malts, dominated by whisky from the island of Islay. Its formula remains the secret of the creator, unofficially we learned that the key to it is Caol Ila. The Peat Chimney presented here is bottled without an age statement, without cold filtration and with an alcohol content increased to 46%. In the autumn of 2020, the company changed the presentation of the whisky to a more modern and definitely more eye-catching one (the drink remained the same).
Aroma : sweet and smoky, vanilla, caramel, apples, dried dates, raisins, a trace of coconut flakes, a pinch of pepper and a dash of iodine.
Palate: peat smoke, salt and pepper, sweet breakfast cereal, honey, caramel, apples, orange peel, oak and a hint of hay.
Finish : medium long, with notes of peat smoke, sea salt, pepper, vanilla, a touch of iodine and oak.
