The Pearls of Scotland is a range of whiskies from the portfolio of Gordon & Co. (Distillers), a family company based on the outskirts of Glasgow.
The company was founded in 2012 by Jim Gordon, a man with over 30 years of experience in the whisky trade. The Glen Garioch presented here was distilled in October 1994 and aged for over two decades in cask no. 23, then bottled at 62.4% abv in September 2015 in an edition of 324 bottles. Glen Garioch has been producing whisky since 1797 and is currently owned by Beam Suntory. It is equipped with three stills (although only two are used) and in 2020 it distilled 850,000 litres of spirit, using around 70% of its potential.
Nose: delicate floral, moist hay, potpourri, sweet breakfast cereals, caramel, milk chocolate, a handful of fresh herbs, apples, lemon peel, notes of tobacco and oak.
Palate: breakfast cereals, vanilla, honey, roasted nuts, grapefruit, apples, green tea, lemongrass, oak, a touch of cardamom and anise.
Finish: quite long, slightly mineral, with notes of fresh herbs, white pepper, ginger, vanilla and oak tannins.
