Tamdhu Distillery was built between 1896 and 1897 by leading blended whisky producers including John Walker & Sons, William Grant & Co. and Robertson & Baxter.
The distillery has been owned by Ian Macleod Distillers since 2011 and produces around 3 million litres of distillate per year at 75% of its capacity. Tamdhu features in many blends including Cutty Sark, J&B and Famous Grouse. The Tamdhu 12 year old presented here was distilled in June 2007 and aged in a refill hogshead cask no. DL 13984. Bottled in April 2020 at 48.4% abv and unchillfiltered in Douglas Laing's Old Particular series in an edition of 415 bottles.
Nose : strong notes of vanilla, honeycomb, sweet breakfast cereals, roasted nuts, apples, peaches, cinnamon, white pepper, damp hay and oak.
Flavor : vanilla pudding, milk chocolate, honey, almond croissants, cinnamon, candied ginger, orange peel, apricots, apples and oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, summer fruits, roasted nuts and almonds and a hint of ginger.
