Product description
The Macallan is undoubtedly the most collectible whisky of our time. Its prestige dates back to the 1950s when management decided to expand and sell The Macallan as a single malt.
The following years only cemented the brand's fame, which currently achieves extremely high prices at auctions, breaking its own records - in October 2019, at an auction held in London by Sotheby's, an anonymous buyer paid £1.5 million for a bottle of The Macallan 60 years old, distilled 1926, setting another record. The whisky came from cask no. 263, from which only 40 bottles were filled in 1986; they are now referred to as the "Holy Grail of Whisky".
The Macallan 1946 presented here has not only great collector's value, but also historical value. Immediately after the end of World War II, both grain and coal were rationed in Great Britain. In order to maintain production, the distillery owners decided to malt the barley with peat, the fuel they used for the first few decades of operation. After more than half a century of maturation in sherry casks, in 1998 we received The Macallan, one of a kind, probably the closest in character to that produced in the mid-19th century.
