BenRiach 1993, 25-year-old Rioja Cask # 7881 / 54.3%/ 0.7l
- In the late June 2019 BenRiach Distillery revealed details of their newest batch of single cask selection.
Product description
The 16th edition of BenRiacha Single Cask was released at the end of June 2019. The barrels were selected by blender Dr. Rachel Barrie.
This time, Ms. Barrie selected 24 barrels, the first 12 of which were intended for the European market (these were barrels from bourbon, Oloroso sherry, port, rum, Marsala, Rioja wine and so-called virgin oak), while the rest went to the markets of Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. The youngest whisky in the European offer was a 7-year-old aged in virgin barrels, the oldest was 33 years old Peated. The one presented here, distilled on September 27, 1993, spent a quarter of a century in a Spanish Rioja wine barrel no. 7881, and its content translated into 231 bottles of cask strength whisky (54.3% abv).
Producer's tasting note:
Nose: Chocolate, roasted hazelnuts and cherry pie give way to plums, kitchen spices and burnt meringues; in the background, delicate notes of leather and tobacco.
Taste : sweetness complemented by pleasant bitterness, blackberry compote, dark chocolate, smoked plums, and a long, fruity finish dominated by notes of cherry and black pepper.
