Product description
Although Auchentoshan Distillery has officially been operating since 1823, the first written mention of the site dates back to 1649 and mentions a monastery.
We know that at that time the “water of life” was distilled in most Scottish monasteries, so we can assume that the present Auchentoshan was producing it two centuries before its nominal date of foundation. In 1969 the distillery passed into the hands of Eadie Cairns Ltd, which carried out a major modernisation and soon offered the single malt Glentoshan. Here we present the 5-year-old version of this whisky bottled in the 1970s and 1980s for the Italian importer International Foods SpA. At that time, Italians liked young single malts and the Glentoshan/Auchentoshan discussed here competed successfully with the 5-year-old Glen Grant or Aberlour. The term “pure malt”, now banned by law, was an alternative term for single malt whisky at the time.
