Słowo bowmore pochodzi od gaelickiego bogh mòr i oznacza „wielką rafę”. Jest to nazwa administracyjnej stolicy wyspy Islay (faktycznie wioski z niespełna tysiącem mieszkańców) oraz gorzelni produkującej whisky od 1779 roku, najstarszej tego typu placówki na wyspie. Bowmore 17 years old debiutował w końcu lat 80. i przez wielu uważany był za ozdobę podstawowej oferty gorzelni. W 2014 roku zastąpiła go wersja White Sands, również 17-letnia, jednak oparta na destylatach starzonych wyłącznie w beczkach po bourbonie. Prezentowany tutaj w niezwykle atrakcyjnej butelce z nadrukiem pochodzi z lat 90.

The word “Bowmore” derives from Gaelic “Bogh Mòr” and means “great sea reef”. It is a name of the administrative capital of the Isle of Islay (in fact a village inhabited by less than 1000 residents) as well as the oldest working distillery (established 1779). The 17 years old expression was introduced in the late 1980s and considered by many as the best standard bottling of Bowmore. In 2014 it was replaced with White Sands, also 17 years old but aged exclusively in ex-bourbon casks. The lovely bottling with screen printed label from the 1990s has been sought by collectors in recent years.

Nose: smooth and aromatic, peat smoke, chocolate, walnuts, grapefruit, cantaloupe, toasted oak and sea breeze.

Palate: beautifully balanced, peat smoke, dark chocolate with sea salt, caramel, plums, oranges, cantaloupe, walnuts and seaweed salad.

Finish: long and rich, earthy, smoky, briny with distinctive citrusy notes.
