Bowen’s Whiskey is produced in small batches by Bowen’s Spirits in Bakersfield, California since 2011 and according to Wade Bowen, the distillery owner, is dedicated to “Old Bud”, a fifth generation moonshiner. Bowen met Bud in the 1990s and tasted his whiskey right from the mason jar. The next step was an “apprenticeship” and countless number of experiments conducted by Bowen after his master passed away. Finally he achieved sweet and smoky flavor and started production of Bowen’s Small Batch Whiskey. It is 100% corn whiskey, cut with proprietary structured water for purity and consistency and aged “to perfection in reclaimed, fire ravaged oak sourced from forests on central California’s Piute mountain range”. All color and flavors come from toasted oak. The picture of a campfire gives hints to the whiskey character – sweet, with notes of vanilla, and butterscotch and smoky campfire finish. Bowen’s Whiskey scored silver medal at the 2015 International Craft Spirits Competition. Only 12000 bottles are produced each year.
