Basically every new release of Springbank accelerates our heartbeats, but this one we anticipated with true passion. Springbank has always used a substantial amount of sherry barrels for whisky aging and that type of wood works really well for briny and lightly peated Campbeltown spirit. This outstanding whisky was distilled in 1997 and aged in first fill and refill sherry butts and hogsheads for 17 years. Bottled in the early 2015 at 52.3% abv with an outrun of 9120 bottles. In our opinion it is arguably one of the richest whiskies released so far in 2015.
Nose: very strong sherry statement, spicy gingerbread, nougat, cherries, plums, orange zest, hints of peat and pepper.
Palate: incredibly rich and complex, dark orange chocolate, fruitcake, dried fruits, hints of coffee, leather and licorice, dash of salt and everlasting sherry notes.
Finish: long and smooth, dark chocolate, coffee, marzipan, sweet spice, all under the umbrella of sherry
