Black Barrel is a single grain whisky from William Grant & Sons portfolio. The brand was introduced in 1995 in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy and later in Scandinavia and South America. The whisky comes form the company owned Girvan Distillery, one of the biggest grain distilleries in Scotland, and its formula includes 90% of wheat and 10% of malted barley. Black Barrel comprises whisky aged in charred oak barrels made of white American oak and bottled at 43% abv. The brand was phased out in the early 2000s.
Nose: sweet and spicy, caramel, vanilla, pears, bananas, nutmeg, dash of cinnamon and charred oak.
Palate: much like a nose, caramel, toffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, allspice, apple pie dusted with cinnamon and notes of charred oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon and oak.
