The cutter is a hand tool used to cut peat from drier and shallower bogs. AnCnoc Cutter is a fourth expression of the distillery Peaty Collection introduced in April 2014. While previous three whiskies (Rutter, Flaughter and Tushkar) had phenol contents ranging from 11 to 15 ppm (parts per million) Cutter shows 20.5 ppm, which is a level of the most intensely smoky whiskies on the market. Cutter was aged in ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at 46% abv without chill-filtration.
Nose: peaty, slightly medicinal, with strong fruity notes (peaches and pears) and traces of oak.
Palate: rich and complex, lots of peat, polished leather, vanilla, sweet spice, grapefruit and quince jam.
Finish: smoky and phenolic, salty, oaky.
