Jameson, a traditional Irish whiskey made at Midleton distillery in Cork County, is one of the best known Irish whiskey brands in the world. The 12-year-old expression, composed by the master blender Barry Walsh, is a whiskey made from 75% pot still whiskey – a whiskey distilled in traditional copper pot stills, but with an addition of unmalted barley in the mash. It matured partially in ex-bourbon casks (approx. 70%) and in ex-sherry casks (approx. 30%).
This particular bottle is a highly collectible item, being an expression bottled some 30 years ago, in the 1980s, when Jameson whiskey was bottled as Jameson 1780 to commemorate the company’s foundation date.
Nose: A distinct mixture of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry cask influences. There is vanilla and dried fruit and nuts. Pronounced spice, caramel and chocolate.
Palate: Full and complex – notes of sherry, dried plums, raisins, as well as spice, caramel, toffee and chocolate.
Finish: Long, warming. Slowly diminishing fruit notes with spices.
