In 2011 French company Picard Vins & Spiritueux acquired Tullibardine Distillery from a group of private investors who had brought the distillery back into production in 2003, after it had been mothballed for 10 years. Picard’s first foray into Scotch whisky came with the acquisition of the Highland Queen and Muirhead’s brands from Glenmorangie in 2008. In 2013 the French completely revamped the Tullibardine range introducing several new expressions. The highlight of the new range was Tullibardine 20 year old, a wonderful whisky aged for at least two decades in first fill ex-bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 43% abv and presented in very elegant box.
Nose: sweet, with delicate floral notes of summer meadow, vanilla, honey, butterscotch, caramel, bananas, pineapple, hints allspice and oak.
Palate: rich, honey, vanilla, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, candied orange peel, milk chocolate, lemon curd, notes of allspice and pepper.
Finish: medium long, initial sweetness soon gives way to spicy notes of pepper and ginger.
