Writer’s Tears is a brand of Irish whiskey made by the Walsh Whiskey Distillery, composed from spirits produced in one of the Cork Country distilleries.
Writer’s Tears Cask Strength is a limited expression of whiskey made from malt whiskey and pot still whiskey – a whiskey distilled in traditional copper pot stills, but with an addition of unmalted barley in the mash. Matured in ex-bourbon casks. Each year a limited number of bottles hit the market. In 2012, it was 1800 bottles.
Nose: Sweet and light. Freshly cut grass, hay and heather, plus some peaches and white chocolate.
Palate: Malty, with herbal and spicy notes – some nutmeg, ginger, paprika, a little bit of vanilla.
Finish: The fruity and sweet notes fade away, replaced by some bitterness and saltiness.
