Teaninich is a big distillery located in Northern Highlands currently owned by Diageo. The recent upgrades (2015) doubled its capacity to almost 10 million liters of spirit per annum. Despite its size Teaninich brand has been barely known. The whisky is a major component of Johnnie Walker blends thus single malts bottlings are scarce. Here we have a limited release of Teaninich, part of Douglas Laing & Co. Old Malt Cask selection. The whisky distilled in December 1982 spent 27 years in refill hogshead no. DL 6454. Bottled in August 2010 without chill-filtration at 50% abv, with an outrun of 239 bottles.

Nose: grassy and slightly mineral, with notes of chalk and pencil shavings, candle wax, vanilla, quince jelly, green apples and hints of oak.

Palate: malty and grassy, green apples, bananas, lemon pepper, walnuts, hints of vanilla and marzipan, buttered toast, touch of eucalyptus and oak.

Finish: pretty long, oaky and nutty with notes of hay, lemon peel and sour apples.
