Douglas Laing, one of the most reputable independent bottling companies, used to be run by two Laing brothers, Stuart and Fred. In 2013, after almost 40 years of working together, the brothers parted their ways and split the old company portfolio. Old Malt Cask, Douglas Laing signature series, is now part of newly formed Hunter Laing & Co with Stuart at the helm. Tomintoul 40 years old distilled in January 1970, five years after the distillery was founded, is a content of single refill hogshead no. DL 6215. Bottled in May 2010 at 46.5% abv and unchill-filtered with an outrun of 168 bottles.

Nose: smooth, breakfast cereals, brown sugar, hay barn, apples, bananas, honey, toffee, hints of ginger and pepper and touch of oak.

Palate: soft, with notes of pepper, ginger and lemon grass, touch of aniseed, grapefruits, light honey and vanilla, hints of hay and lingering oaky dryness.

Finish: medium long and warming, mixed spice, oak and fading hints of smoke.
