Signatory Vintage founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington is one of the leading independent whisky bottling companies. On every cask strength bottling the Symingtons always include much appreciated information – the cask number, date of distillation and bottling and number of bottles filled. The 24 years old expression of Port Ellen reviewed here comprises whisky distilled on September 5, 1978, aged in traditional oak barrels and finished in ex-port cask. Bottled on September 16, 2002 at natural strength of 58% abv with an outrun of 804 bottles as part of Decanter Collection. It was the first edition of Port Ellen Port Wood Finish released that day; the whisky came from the cask no. 02/159/1.
