Port Ellen has been Independent Bottlers’ sweetheart for years. In the early 2000s there were hundreds (if not thousands) of Port Ellen casks in circulation and each year dozens of expressions hit the market. The one presented here comes from The Queen of the Moorlands Whisky Company, a rather obscured bottler from Leek, Staffordshire. David Wood, the owner of The Wine Shop in Leek, introduced the Queen of the Moorlands label in 2004. The whiskies are selected by David and approved by his customers/friends who call themselves The Queen of the Moorlands Whisky Committee.
The 25 years old Port Ellen comes from a single cask filled in 1982. It was bottled in May 2007 at 46% abv, unchill-filtered with an outrun of 119 bottles.
