Port Ellen Distillery ceased production in 1983 and remains one of the most mourned closed distilleries. While in the 1990s independent bottlers flooded market with Port Ellen, today their releases are extremely scarce. Dewar Rattray Ltd. was founded in 1868 and originally imported French wines and Italian spirits. Since 2002 the company is owned by Tim Morrison, previously of Morrison Bowmore Distillers and fourth generation descendent of Andrew Dewar Rattray.
The 2007 release of Port Ellen contains whisky distilled on October 13, 1982, aged in single ex-sherry hogshead (no. 2464) for 24 years and bottled at natural strength of 57.8% abv exclusively for Belgian market. Only 168 bottles were produced.

Finish: very long, peaty and nutty, with notes of grapefruit and licorice.
