Port Ellen Distillery ceased production in 1983 and remains one of the most grieved closed distilleries. While in the 1990s independent bottlers flooded market with Port Ellen today their releases are extremely scarce. Jack Wiebers (aka Lars-Göran Wiebers) is an Independent Bottler from Germany (official company name: Jack Wiebers Whisky World). He started in 1999 and soon earned excellent reputation for his cask selection. His 2010 release of Port Ellen, part of The Cross Hill range, comprises whisky from a single sherry cask filled in 1982. After 28 years the cask yielded 122 bottles at natural strength of 59% abv.

Palate: nicely balanced, peat smoke and sherry, lots of dried fruits, chocolate coated nuts, raisins, trace of cinnamon, pepper and subtle oaky notes.
Finish: long with loads of chocolate, prunes and nuts, all shrouded with peat smoke.
