Port Ellen Distillery was founded in 1825 and fell victim to whisky overproduction of the 1970s and 80s and ceased production in 1983. In the late 1990s and early 2000s Port Ellen single malt experienced generous supply through Independent Bottlers while demand remained rather modest. Nowadays we face completely different scenario with demand going through the roof and stock dried up. The 16 years old expression from Dun Eideann contains whisky distilled in January 1979, aged in a single cask no. 303 and bottled at natural strength of 58.8% abv for the Italian market in August 1995. Only 116 bottles were produced. The Dun Eidean label is owned by Signatory Vintage, the Independent Bottling Company established in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. It is intended for export markets, mainly France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. Dun Eideann (Dùn Èideann) is the Gaelic name of the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.
