Port Ellen Distillery was founded in 1825 and fell victim to whisky overproduction of the 1970s and 80s and ceased production in 1983. In the late 1990s and early 2000s Port Ellen single malt experienced generous supply through Independent Bottlers while demand remained rather modest. Nowadays we face completely different scenario with demand going through the roof with stock dried up. Douglas of Drumlanrig range is part of Douglas Laing & Co. portfolio personally endorsed and approved by the Duke of Buccleuch. The labels of the range are bearing the image of Drumlanrig Castle, the Douglas family residence. The expression of Port Ellen presented here comes from the cask filled in March 1983, jest weeks before the distillery closed forever. Bottled in 2006 at natural strength of 51.8% abv for Danish market.
