Girvan, built by William Grant & Sons in 1963, is a very modern and efficient grain distillery with the distilling capacity of over 120 million liters of spirit per annum. While most grain distilleries use maize as a main grain Girvan’s mashbill includes 90% of wheat and 10% of malted barley. Single grain whisky has been overshadowed by single malts but in recent years the growing interest in the category is noticeable. In the late 2013 William Grant & Sons launched The Girvan Patent Still range, with 25 years old expression as a forerunner, the 28 years old followed next year as Travel Retail exclusive. The whisky was aged exclusively in white American oak barrels.
