Talisker Distillery was funded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. It is located in the Isle of Skye, the largest and most northerly major island in the Inner Hebrides. Currently the distillery is owned by Diageo and equipped with five stills produces 2.7 million liters of spirit per annum. In 2005, to commemorate the distillery 175th Anniversary, Diageo issued a limited edition of the Skye single malt. Talisker 175th Anniversary carries no age statement, the oldest component dates back to the md 1970s, while the youngest are at least 10 years old. The edition was limited to 60000 bottles.
Nose: smooth and fresh, apples, peaches, plums, toffee, vanilla, seaweed, sea mist, hints of hay, pepper and subtle smokiness.
Palate: pretty complex, sweet and smoky, apples, oranges, sweetened lime juice, coconut flakes, toffee, touch of licorice, dash of salt and pepper.
Finish: fairly long and smooth, slightly nutty and fruity, with delicate salty and peaty notes.
