Despite fairly big distilling capacity (roughly 4 million liters of spirit per annum) Craigellachie is not widely recognized name among whisky drinkers.
The vast portion of annual output goes into Dewar’s blends and current owners, Bacardi Martini, didn’t take too much effort to promote Craigellachie as single malt. All that changed in 2014 when the entire new range was launched including 13 years old – an excellent introduction to the distillery portfolio.
Nose: malty and fruity, apples, pears, apricots, vanilla, honey, cinnamon and delicate mineral note.
Palate: sweet and fruity, slightly oily, apples, pears, honey roasted nuts, crème brûlée, vanilla and traces of oak.
Finish: medium long, oaky, vanilla, apricots and a whiff of smoke.
